Day 1

WELCOME TO ATHENS

 

Upon arrival to the airport, you will be greeted by a CareUnderSun staff member. Afterwards enjoy the exciting scenery of Athen's streets during the 30min drive to your hotel.

 

Overflowing with history and mythology, Athens is a vibrant city, enlivened by bustling outdoor cafes, pedestrian friendly streets that wind through the city's ancient sites. Athens is a city full of urban eccentrics, diversity, and contrasts. In the afternoon, close to the hotels you can enjoy the accessible beach with Seatrac. An additional option depending on the time of arrival is booking a half day excursion to experience the highlights of Athens.

Day 2

ATHENS

Take half the day discovering the diverse city of Athens, which is famous for its historical monuments. Visit the Acropolis, an ancient citadel located on a rocky outcrop above the city of Athens and contains the remains of several ancient buildings of great architectural and historical significance. It is enthroned over the city as a reminder of the beauty and glory of ancient Athens. Drive to Olympion, where you will discover the Temple of Olympian Zeus, also known as the Olympieion or Columns of the Olympian Zeus. This monument is a former colossal temple at the center of the Greek capital Athens. You will also visit the birthplace of the Olympic games, Panathinaiko Stadium. The only stadium in the world built entirely from marble. Witness the changing of the guards at the tomb of the unknown soldier, a war memorial located in Syntagma Square in Athens in front of the parliament building. Finally, we will take a scenic drive along Panepistimiou Boulevard where you will see the Catholic Cathedral, the Academy of Athens, the University, and the National Library.

Day 3

ATHENS to CORINTHOS

 

Today we depart from Athens heading west taking the picturesque route of Olimpia Odos. Corinth is approximately 120 km from Athens. We will explore important ancient sites such as Corinth Canal, and the Port of Cehrees. Discover the ruins of classical Corinth, including the Temple of Apollo and stand where St. Paul preached.

 

Take a tour of the Museum and witness some of the artifacts that were found at the site. Admire the 19th-century, steep-sided Corinth Canal which was built in 1893. This canal connects the Gulf of Corinth in the Ionian Sea with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea. Enjoy all these highlights at your own pace and arrive to the hotel in Corinthos for a relaxing afternoon.

Day 4

CORINTHOS EPIDAURUS NAFPLIO NEMEA 

 

After departing from Corinthos we will drive south on the peninsula of Peloponnese and travel back into history by visiting the ancient theater of Epidaurus. In the past Epidaurus was a sanatorium connected intensively with the Asclepion healing temples. Asclepion was the 5 star hotel of the ancient times and is considered as the origin of the medical science. At present, Epidaurus is most known as the theater with the greatest acoustic sound of all times and still hosts the Festival of Epidaurus every summer. Our next stop will be the beautiful village Nafplio. Admire the endless breathtaking view of the Argolic Gulf from the Castle of Palamidi which sits on top of a hill. Before Athens, Nafplio was the capital of Greece and its architecture has venetian, byzantine, ottoman, and modern greek influences. Admire the main attractions like Bourtzi Castle and Acronafplia as well as the various picturesque squares in the city center. Observe the colorful venetian houses that attract your eyes with the brightly colored bougainvilleas hanging from the balconies. Enjoy a traditional greek lunch and dine with the locals in a cozy tavern. In the afternoon, on our way back to Corinthos we will make a stop to one of the most known wine regions of Greece. We will be able to visit their cellars and learn about the production and different varieties of wine they offer. You will also be given the opportunity to taste some of the wine they produce.

Day 5

OLYMPIA LEFKADA

Our journey continues today towards the ancient site of Olympia, the birthplace of the ancient Olympic Games. There you can visit the archaeological site and Museum of Olympia, which houses a large amount of artifacts and statues. You can also visit the Museum of the Olympic Games. Feel the energy of the Olympic Games as you explore the Temple of Zeus, Pelopion, the Temple of Hera, the Philippeion, the Phidias Workshop and many other historical sites or simply walk around the stadium. It is fascinating to see where the fire is ignited for the occasion of the Olympic Games and then carried around the world. After lunch we drive north passing the city of Patras and crossing the Rio–Antirrio Bridge, one of the world's longest multi-span cable-stayed bridges and longest of the fully suspended type. It crosses the Gulf of Corinth near Patras, linking the town of Rio on the Peloponnese peninsula to Antirrio on mainland Greece by road. In the afternoon we will arrive to Lefkada, a Greek island in the Ionian Sea connected to the mainland by a causeway.

Day 6

LEFKADA

 

Our well planned and balanced itinerary has given us the opportunity to spend the next two days enjoying the island feel. West coast beaches like Porto Katsiki and Egremni feature sheer cliffs and endless turquoise waters.

The East Coast is known for its traditional villages, including the seaside resort of Nydri. In the north Lefkada town is the island's gateway and capital. Vassiliki, in the south, attracts windsurfers. Enjoy the picturesque drive around the island, lunch in a typical tavern, and take the best inspirational photos during our stops.

Day 7

LEFKADA - ATHENS

 

Today we return to Athens taking the highway that offers us great views on the Saronic Golf and beautiful landscape.

We transfer you to your booked hotel in Athens if you wish to prolong your stay or directly to the airport.
