Day 1

Day 1 — Arrival in Thessaloniki, Greece

Welcome to Thessaloniki
Arrival, transfer to your hotel in Thessaloniki — Greece’s second-largest city, vibrant and full of Byzantine and Ottoman history.

Evening orientation walk:

  • Aristotelous Square & seaside promenade (great to unwind after travel).

  • Option for an introductory dinner of Macedonian Greek cuisine.

Day 2 — Thessaloniki City & The White Tower

Day 2

Morning city tour:
Visit the White Tower of Thessaloniki, the city’s emblematic fortress and museum showing Thessaloniki’s layered past.

Suggested highlights to include:

  • The waterfront and Aristotelous Square

  • Rotunda & Arch of Galerius

  • Byzantine Walls / Upper Town panoramas

 

Optional half-day guided panoramic tour of Thessaloniki’s historic core.

Free afternoon for: Shopping, cafés, or a visit to the Archaeological or Byzantine Museum.

Day 3 — Vergina & Ancient Macedonia

Half-day excursion to Vergina:
Explore the royal ancient capital of Aigai, the burial place of King Philip II (Alexander the Great’s father), and its underground museum with spectacular treasures.

Highlights in Vergina:

  • The Royal Tombs & Great Tumulus

  • Ancient palace remains & 4th-century theatre

  • Archaeological museum with Macedonian artifacts

Return to Thessaloniki for dinner and overnight.

Transfer from Thessaloniki to Sofia.

Cross into Bulgaria — scenic landscapes and your first taste of Bulgarian culture.

Sofia City Tour

This day is dedicated to exploring Sofia, Bulgaria’s historic capital, combining cultural landmarks, ancient history, and scenic views.

Sofia highlights:

  • Enjoy a panoramic view of the city from Vitosha Mountain

  • Learn about the legacy of “The Bells” Monument

  • Explore the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Serdica

  • Visit two key museums: the National Archaeology Museum and the Sofia History Museum

  • See the main highlights of Sofia’s city center, including its iconic squares and landmarks

The tour offers a balanced introduction to Sofia’s rich past and modern atmosphere, with time to experience the city’s cultural and historical depth.

Day 6

Plovdiv, Ancient & Cultural Heart of Bulgaria

Day trip (or overnight) to Plovdiv:
Plovdiv is one of Europe’s oldest continuously inhabited cities with a rich multicultural heritage.

Must-see attractions:

  • Roman Theatre of Philippopolis — superb ancient arena still in use for performances

  • Old Town with Revival-period houses & charming cobblestone lanes

  • Archaeological Museum and cultural landmarks

Optional activities:

  • Visit a local winery or the trendy Kapana quarter (arts & cafés)

  • Coffee or lunch in the vibrant city centre

Return to Sofia for overnight (or stay in Plovdiv if logistics permit).

Return to Thessaloniki

Enjoy the changing landscapes as you return into Greece.

Farewell dinner in Thessaloniki:
Celebrate the last night with local specialties and perhaps a sunset stroll along the Thermaic Gulf.
