If you’ve been dreaming of Santorin, the whitewashed villages, the caldera views, the sunsets, you’re not alone. Many travelers want to go, but hesitate because it’s hard to know what’s truly accessible. Together with Kamil, we have visited the island, and here’s a clear, realistic guide to help you plan with confidence.
Santorini can be partly accessible, but it isn’t consistently wheelchair-friendly. The island is famous for steep cliffs, stairs, cobblestones, and narrow lanes—especially in the most photographed areas. The good news: with the right base, the right hotel, and good preparation, many wheelchair users do have a great trip.

Getting around: what’s easiest
Best option: a private accessible transfer (or a rental vehicle that fits your needs). This reduces stress and avoids long walks on uneven ground. Book ahead.
Taxis and buses: can be challenging for wheelchair access depending on equipment and availability, so plan backups.
Expect hills: even short distances can be steep. A power chair or strong assistance can make a big difference.

Where accessibility is toughest (but still possible)
Oia and parts of Fira are stunning—and also the most difficult: steps, slopes, and crowded, narrow paths.
You may be able to reach viewpoints and accessible terraces, but not every “classic photo spot” will be reachable. That’s not failure—that’s smart travel.

Together with Kamil, we had the opportunity to visit the island and explore its main tourist attractions while carefully checking them for accessibility. During our trip, we assessed which sites, restaurants, and activities are wheelchair-friendly, so you can enjoy a smooth and comfortable experience.

We have prepared a detailed video that highlights our findings and shares valuable tips and insights about this amazing island. By watching it, you can learn which places are easiest to access, what to plan for in advance, and how to make the most of your visit. With careful preparation, you will be able to fully enjoy the island’s beauty, culture, and unique experiences without unnecessary stress, ensuring a truly memorable trip.
