Day 2

ATHENS

Take half the day discovering the diverse city of Athens, which is famous for its historical monuments. Visit the Acropolis, an ancient citadel located on a rocky outcrop above the city of Athens and contains the remains of several ancient buildings of great architectural and historical significance. It is enthroned over the city as a reminder of the beauty and glory of ancient Athens. Drive to Olympion, where you will discover the Temple of Olympian Zeus, also known as the Olympieion or Columns of the Olympian Zeus. This monument is a former colossal temple at the center of the Greek capital Athens. You will also visit the birthplace of the Olympic games, Panathinaiko Stadium. The only stadium in the world built entirely from marble. Witness the changing of the guards at the tomb of the unknown soldier, a war memorial located in Syntagma Square in Athens in front of the parliament building. Today we depart from Athens heading west taking the picturesque route of Attiki Odos. Corinth is approximately 120 km from Athens. Day 4

CORINTHOS EPIDAURUS NAFPLIO NEMEA

After departing from Corinthos we will drive south on the peninsula of Peloponnese and travel back into history by visiting the ancient theater of Epidaurus. In the past Epidaurus was a sanatorium connected intensively with the Asclepion healing temples. Asclepion was the 5 star hotel of the ancient times and is considered as the origin of the medical science. At present, Epidaurus is most known as the theater with the greatest acoustic sound of all times and still hosts the Festival of Epidaurus every summer. Our next stop will be the beautiful village Nafplio. Admire the endless breathtaking view of the Argolic Gulf from the Castle of Palamidi which sits on top of a hill. Before Athens, Nafplio was the capital of Greece and its architecture has venetian, byzantine, ottoman, and modern greek influences. Admire the main attractions like Bourtzi Castle and Acronafplia as well as the various picturesque squares in the city center. Observe the colorful venetian houses that attract your eyes with the brightly colored bougainvilleas hanging from the balconies. Enjoy a traditional greek lunch and dine with the locals in a cozy tavern. In the afternoon, on our way back to Corinthos we will make a stop to one of the most known wine regions of Greece. We will be able to visit their cellars and learn about the production and different varieties of wine they offer. You will also be given the opportunity to taste some of the wine they produce.

Feel the energy of the Olympic Games as you explore the Temple of Zeus, Pelopion, the Temple of Hera, the Philippeion, the Phidias Workshop and many other historical sites or simply walk around the stadium. It is fascinating to see where the fire is ignited for the occasion of the Olympic Games and then carried around the world. After lunch we drive north passing the city of Patras and crossing the Rio–Antirrio Bridge, one of the world's longest multi-span cable-stayed bridges and longest of the fully suspended type. It crosses the Gulf of Corinth near Patras, linking the town of Rio on the Peloponnese peninsula to Antirrio on mainland Greece by road. In the afternoon we will arrive to Lefkada, a Greek island in the Ionian Sea connected to the mainland by a causeway.
